I’m a planner. I like to know where we are going, how we are going to get there, when we will be there, what we will do when we are there and when we’re coming back.  Google Maps is my friend.  I write list, make notes and try to think through every detail. I’m not much for the unexpected. Some may say “I wish I were more like that” other “that would drive me crazy”.

I don’t think I’m alone. We all like to have some idea where our life is going and how it will end up. To be able to dream about and plan our lives and activities is a God given blessing we must keep it in its proper perspective.

James 4:13-15 encourages what I call a proper planning perspective.

Several challenges are listed.  First, see our life on how God does.  It’s a short moment. A vapor.  It’s been said that our life on Earth is practice for eternity. Our goal is to see past where we are and where we are going.

Second, we don’t have to know everything. We planners can get so caught up in so many details that often we fail to act or plan God right out of the way. We don’t know everything but know we serve the One who does.

Third, don’t forget that our plan fits nicely into God’s plan for our life which is to glorify him.  Therefore, when we seek his will our plans will succeed and he will be glorified.

So go plan your life. Plan your business. Plan your vacation and hobbies.  Plan your fun and not so fun things to do but always plan humbly.  Always remember anything you can plan or imagine about your life, God can imagine and do greater.
