Description of WFR Relief Ministries

Goal: Helping communities in times of major disasters through local churches of Christ

           WFR Relief Ministries is a faith based disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization providing immediate response to emergency disasters through sister churches, their leaders and missionaries.  We desire to help people, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion to the glory of God.   WFR Relief Ministries seeks contributions to facilitate acts of Christian compassion directed by local churches of Christ. 

            For over two decades, the success of this ministry has been characterized by the meeting of real needs, targeting the very poorest and helpless, and successful advancement of the cause of Jesus Christ. We help deliver medicine, agriculture supplies and implements, and desperately needed food.  Often we are able to make possible clean water and home gardens.  In demonstrating concern for human suffering through local Christians, we are confirming God’s love.

            Our network of church leaders, missionaries and contributors around the world allows us to quickly determine and respond to legitimate needs.  WFR Relief Ministries has helped local churches of Christ in over 50 countries as well as churches in many U. S. cities during times of disaster and human misery.

            With the assistance of sister humanitarian organizations we have developed strategic partnerships that multiply cash, volunteers and experience.  Our focus continues to be disaster relief, but when funds are available we seek to improve lives of some of the poorest by helping improve water management, economic programs, agriculture improvements and health care.

            The WFR Church of Christ elders oversee this ministry through the appointment of a director, governing committee and the enforcement of strong accounting procedures.  Annually they require an external audit of this ministry which has been directed by Don Yelton since its beginning in 1981. 

            In disaster areas WFR Relief exclusively ministers through local churches of Christ encouraging them to work with appropriate organizations, government entities and welfare agencies responding to needs in their communities. 

            The model we follow is biblical, time-tested, cost-effective and experience-driven. Fund raising and administration expenses are low because we have only one full-time and one part-time paid workers.  We add value to every dollar given through our decades of experience and our strategic partnerships.  We not only multiply contributor's gifts by volume purchasing, but we help recipient church leaders develop local partnerships that will often produce gifts-in-kind that are useful in reducing suffering.   We welcome questions and suggestions that will improve our ministry. 

Isaiah 58:10  if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.
